TL;DR

  • Aspects are angular separations between points in a chart.
  • The five major aspects are conjunction, opposition, square, trine and sextile.
  • Read the two planets first, then the aspect, and finally the signs and houses.
  • Use the complete guide to aspects in astrology as your reference table.

Start with geometry

An aspect begins as an angle. A conjunction places two points close together. An opposition places them across the chart. A square divides the circle by four, a trine by three and a sextile by six. Traditional interpretations attach qualities such as concentration, polarity, tension or flow to these patterns.

The geometry is measurable. The meaning is interpretive. Keeping that distinction visible makes it easier to compare a claim with lived experience instead of treating every aspect as destiny.

What an orb changes

An orb is the allowed distance from the nominal angle. Different schools use different limits, and tighter aspects are generally treated as more concentrated. State the orb rule rather than hiding it. Two calculators can disagree because one accepts a wider margin.

Aspect interpretation form

Interpret one aspect from evidence

Avoid the good and bad trap

A trine can describe ease, but ease can be underused. A square can describe friction, but friction can motivate development. The aspect does not override choice, context or skill. If the symbols become crowded, return to the planet, sign and house sentence method.

Prioritise before interpreting

A chart can contain many aspects, especially when a calculator uses wide orbs and includes numerous minor points. Start with tight aspects between the Sun, Moon and planets. Then look for repeated patterns involving the angles or several planets. This reduces keyword overload and makes the method explainable to another reader. If a minor aspect is the only support for a dramatic claim, the claim is carrying more weight than the evidence available.
