How this works
Your Sun sign is decided by where the Sun sat on the day you were born. For most birthdays a date is enough. For the handful of days each month when one sign hands over to the next, it is not - and this tool will tell you when you are in that situation instead of picking one.
Why boundary dates are different
Sign date ranges published in tables are averages. The exact moment the Sun crosses into the next sign shifts by up to about a day from year to year, because a calendar year is not a whole number of days. If you were born within a day of a changeover, only a calculated chart can settle it - which is why this tool flags the case instead of picking.
What your Sun sign does and does not cover
- It describes conscious direction - what you are steering towards.
- It does not cover emotional needs; that is your Moon sign.
- It does not cover how you come across; that is your rising sign, which needs a birth time.
